Church of England Central Services

Church of England Central Services (ChECS) is a jointly controlled entity between the Archbishops’ Council (AC), the Church Commissioners for England (CC), and the Church of England Pensions Board (PB). Each of the three NCIs have appointed one trustee to the Board of ChECS – a role assigned to the Chairman, in the case of the Pensions Board.  

The objectives of ChECS are to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Church Institutions (NCIs), dioceses and other charities with a Church ethos by providing cost-effective shared support services through the following departments:

  • Finance & Resources
  • Legal
  • IT
  • HR & Office Services
  • Records Management
  • Communications
  • Risk Management & Internal Audit

ChECS also has a trading subsidiary through which it operates the Parish Buying procurement service and the Pathways recruitment service on behalf of both the NCIs and the wider Church.
