York Minster is a national treasure and a living Christian community. It is both place and people: a repository of some of the finest mediaeval glass, stone and architecture; and a pilgrim people learning to seek and serve Jesus Christ in the world. Everything we do here – from welcoming 700,000 visitors annually, breaking new ground in visitor engagement, to offering music of the highest quality - serves the purpose of the Minster’s life, which is to invite everyone to discover God’s love as it has been revealed in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

The Chapter of York is composed of both clergy and lay members and, like many trustee boards, includes executive and non-executive members. The role of Lay Canons on Chapter is vital to the healthy and dynamic functioning of corporate governance. Current lay members of Chapter provide invaluable input, constructive challenge and support to the work of York Minster’s governing body.

With the full support of the Chapter of York, the Archbishop of York is seeking to appoint Lay Canons from a range of backgrounds who understand the praying and missional heart of the Minster’s life and will, through the quality of their input, enable sound governance, a sustainable financial future and the effective delivery of ambitious and exciting plans in the years ahead.
